As part of the day, students will:
Watch a 25 minute performance of Massive Company devised theatre
Have the chance to talk directly with the performers and directors of the show, in a Q&A style forum, learning how Massive Company makes work.
Participate in a full Massive Company warm up and introduction to foundation skills
Make several pieces of devised theatre, working physically and verbally
Have the chance to perform their work back to each other, and reflect on what they have achieved during the workshop.
The full day workshop features an exclusive performance of scenes and pieces from Massive Company’s recent devised productions.
This workshop puts your students at the very centre of Massive Company’s contagious energy. Working with the cast and directors from Massive Company, students will create their own work in response to the performance. This workshop gives your students an insight into how a professional company creates new work and provides them with skills to embark on their own devised work
Massive Company can bring this full day workshop to your school- We can run this workshop for up to 90 students, providing you have spaces available that are large enough for us to work in. The workshop is suitable for ages 15 upwards Cost of Workshop- $2900 for up to 90 students (approx $32 per student)

2010 saw the launch a series of workshops for Professional practitioners who would like to learn more about how Massive Company creates theatre.
This workshop series will explore how Massive Company works with actors, and look at approaches to Devising theatre with Massive Company. Participants will work with creating both verbal and physical material, and explore how Massive company uses personal stories and experiences to create theatre.
The workshops will be highly energized and physical, with participants being asked to bring a variety of “material” in the form of stories and experiences to work with in making material for devised theatre.
These workshops are aimed at Professional practitioners, who are wanting to make a commitment to developing their work and learning more about the style of work that Massive Company makes.

This workshop will be tutored by Wesley Dowdell (currently appearing as Aaron Spiller on Outrageous Fortune). Wesley has appeared in many Massive Company productions and was most recently seen on stage in 'Whero's New Net'.
The workshop will explore how Massive Company make devised theatre- you will learn lots of new techniques, exercises and ways of creating theatre from your own stories. The workshop will be very energetic and great fun!

The workshop will be run by Scott Cotter and Joe Folau, who will both appear in Massive Company's latest production 'Havoc In The Garden' in 2011.
Workshops are FREE for those aged between 15-25 years old.
MASSIVE! Workshops focus on improvisation and making theatre out of your own stories and experiences.
No previous experience is required- Workshops are open to everyone with a passion for making theatre and the desire to try new things. The workshops are fun and energetic. The workshops are highly physical, so we recommend that you wear clothing that you are comfortable moving around in.
Workshops are led by a dedicated and experienced tutors team, consisting of leading theatre practitioners, all with experience of working on Massive Company productions. Massive's current tutors team includes Sam Scott, Wesley Dowdell, Scott Cotter, Julie Nolan, Miriama McDowell, Jarod Rawiri, Joe Folau and Tahi Mapp-Borren.

Approaches to using Text – The Massive way
A Workshop for teachers – using scenes from Whero’s New Net by Albert Belz
Sam Scott, Artistic Director and founder of Massive Company, will teach a full day workshop on approaches to rehearsing a text. The workshop will give an insight into how Massive Company created Whero’s New Net, from page to stage.
Following an acclaimed national tour of Whero’s New Net in 2009, the play now forms the basis of a unique Massive Company workshop, giving teachers tools and exercises that can be used with their students when working with text.
The Workshop will explore:
Warm up exercises used by Massive Company to encourage ensemble building, focus, listening, physical exploration and the art of play and performance.
Ways of approaching characters and scenes prior to rehearsing the actual text.
Key scenes from Whero’s New Net, using the text in rehearsal.
Ways to deconstruct a story and look at how to turn it into a piece of theatre
Throughout the workshop Sam will give notes and feedback to participants, along with opportunities to discuss approaches to directing – Massive Company style. All Teachers who take part in the workshop will receive a certificate of participation from Massive Company, showing that they have completed the approaches to text workshop. Whero’s New Net follows the story of a young kiwi musician, Whero Mahana, who has traveled to London to follow her dreams. Using short stories from Witi Ihimaera’s collection The New Net Goes Fishing, playwright Albert Belz worked with Massive Company to create a compelling piece of contemporary theatre that explores themes of home, who we are and where we belong.
