Massive introduces people to the performing arts and provides opportunity for ongoing development. We offer accessible entry points and pathways into careers in the arts. Through free workshops and ongoing mentoring/training, artists are able to become a part of the company from age 15 and stay with us throughout their career development.
The best starting point is signing up for one or a few of the Massive workshops. Most of these are either free or koha. You can also just come and observe what we do, as our company has an open door policy. From there, once you are part of the whānau as a workshop participant, you can begin to explore the other pathway opportunities in discussion with our Teaching Artists, Massive Theatre Company management team and other Company Members.
Anyone who engages with Massive is considered part of our wider whānau. If you become a regular attender to workshops, or become part of Massive Nui Ensemble, or take on a more senior role in the organisation (such as a Teaching Artist, Director, Creator) we consider you a Massive Company Member. There is no set time on how long any one person is a Company Member and as far as we're concerned, once you're a Massive, you are always part of the whānau.
Yes. For some of our professional pathways Company Members are paid for their work. Massive strives to be a part of creating a sustainable and healthy professional ecosystem for artists and creators in the performing arts. Creating paid professional opportunities is a big part of that mahi.
That sounds amazing! At Massive we work to uplift and support one another. It is a big part of being a multigenerational theatre company.
One of the benefits of being more than three decades old, is that we have a large network of Massive whānau that we can call on for support and guidance. So in short, we are open to working with and supporting our Company Members already in other pathways through mentorship-type initiatives.
