THE DIRECTORS LAB

The Directors Lab is Massive's comprehensive mentorship programme. We work with emerging directors, helping them learn and practice their craft, incorporating conversations with various industry professionals and allowing for practical experimentation of theories and techniques.

Directors Lab participants are supported in attending theatre performances to engender their critical sense, and to open up discussions around theatre practice.

Graduates are potentially offered work within the Massive Company programme. Scotty Cotter co-directed The Wholehearted (2016), directed Chance to Ignite (2017) and co-directed Babble (2020). Miriama McDowell co-directed The Island (2016), was a co-writer for Sightings (2018) and wrote our emerging artists’ production Te Whare Kapua | The Cloud House (2021).

HOW TO GET INVOLVED IN THE DIRECTORS LAB

Entry into The Directors Lab programme is typically by invite only, either to existing Massive Company Members, or via connections in the industry.

If you are an emerging director, or are interested in getting involved in Massive Theatre Company, the best way to 'dip your toe in' is to come along to one of our workshops!

We also have an 'open door' policy and you are welcome to get in touch and pop in to get to know Massive a bit more.
